I’m in Cincinnati this week for the regional. I flew here on Thursday, so it was an abbreviated week at home. I did some final review of the tournament in Queens. I played the Stars and Platinum tournament; I hope you enjoyed those videos. Sorry about the technical snafu in the third one. I played a few Zeniths.
I recorded a couple more episodes of the podcast this week. We’ve got some good ones coming up!
I finished reading Eddie Kantar’s phenomenal book How to Count a Bridge Hand. I’ll be writing up my takeaways soon.
I’m playing this week with Marshall Tuly, a great player from Cincinnati who was one of my mentors when I lived here. Marshall won the NAP in 1996 and was second in 1998. Marshall doesn’t play much bridge anymore. We played together for a few days at the Cincinnati regional last year, but I’m not sure he has played since. It’s exciting to play with someone who was such a formative part of my bridge learning. It’s equally—ok, more—exciting to eat Skyline Chili for lunch every day!
Greg and I played a speedball and won handily. Always feels good. We’re getting back into the swing of things on Cuebids.
John McAllister told me about a coach he has been using who has been really helpful for him. She specializes in hypnosis. I’m a little skeptical, but I like to keep an open mind. John had her on his podcast, and I was intrigued. I decided to give it a shot. I had my first session with her this week. I like her a lot and hope she can help shift my mindset a bit. Can’t hurt, right?
I encourage you to share your progress in the comments. We’re all in this together!!
Have a great week.
