I took in a lot of culture this week, which seriously cut into my bridge. I went to the opera, Carnegie Hall, and a Broadway musical. They were all great, but late nights mean late mornings and less productivity. I have stopped buying tickets for mid-week shows, but I still have a few on the calendar I’m not ready to give up. But I am making some serious sacrifices. I gave up tickets to see Yo-Yo Ma at Carnegie Hall in order to play the Team Trials. That’s commitment!
Anant and I have been working to prepare for the Trials. That has mostly involved Cuebids practice, plus some discussions about notes.
I encourage you all to watch the Trials on VuGraph. You can watch me, but there are lots of great players. You can watch on LoveBridge’s VuGraph, and the USBF has a Twitch channel. We’re going to be doing interviews with players and a daily end-of-day wrap up. You can get all the details here.
A lot of you wrote me about how great Ribs LaMothe was on the podcast last week. What a character! This week we’ve got a bridge celebrity: Jeopardy! champion James Holzhauer.
Here’s what I did this week:
VuGraph
I’m almost through last year’s USBC—just in time for this one to start!
Robots
A few robot tournaments on BBO, some Bridge Master hands. Not as much as I would like.
Play
Anant and I practiced against robots on IntoBridge. I played a couple of duplicate games online with students.
Reading
I was really bad about reading this week. I still haven’t finished Thinking on Defense. I bought a bunch of new books that I’m eager to read. I’m not sure why I’m not prioritizing it. I think I get a lot out of reading.
Partnership
Anant and I did a lot of work, mostly on Cuebids.
Beyond Bridge
I’m still meditating and walking every day. Still haven’t found a gym. After the Trials!
I encourage you to share your progress in the comments. We’re all in this together!!
Have a great week.
