It was a truncated week; I fly to Memphis today (Thursday). The first big event of the NABC—the Platinum Pairs—starts Friday. This is by far my favorite pair game. It’s an elite field: you have to have over 200 lifetime Platinum Points or have won over 50 in the last 3 years. It’s a slog from the first board. Greg and I finished 3rd a couple of years ago—one of the highlights of my bridge career. I can’t wait to see how we do this time around.
Greg and I got some good work in this week. We finalized the notes and did some bidding practice, both on Cuebids and on BBO. I played a few robot games, studied some VuGraph, continued reading. A lot of it now is just playing to the best of my ability at the table.
I won’t be sending out an update next week. I’ll do a thorough recap of the tournament the following week, and Greg and I will I’m sure do a lot of analysis work after the tournament.
If you’re not going to be in Memphis, the ACBL and my friend Rob Barrington have some great VuGraph planned. I encourage you to check it out.
If you are going to be in Memphis, please say hi. I’d love to hear about what you’re doing to level up your game. The easiest way to find me will be at the two lectures I’m giving:
Monday, March 17, at 9:15. Topic: Modern Defensive Thinking (literally wrote the book on this one!)
Friday, March 21, at 9:15. Topic: How to be a Good Partner (Greg always likes coming to this one!)
